Peace returns to Delta community as Warri Monarch okays new Olare-Aja

The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli has restored peace to the troubled Ureju Community in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, reportedly declaring Pa. Thompson Adini Jarikpe, who is the oldest man residing in the community as the new Olare-Aja (oldest man) in-line with the new Palace resolution.

Our Correspondent reports that Ureju Community was having leadership tussle in recent times which led to the setting up of a five-man Ureju Development  Association, UDA, Caretaker Committee chaired by Mr. Larry Edeka Omonedo, with a mandate to oversee the affairs of the Community till June 30, 2016.

Making a declaration Friday April 15, the Warri Monarch explained that the decision to wade into the community leadership tussle became imperative as a result of various petitions submitted to the palace.

It was gathered that after listening to the submissions by the different parties, the Olu of Warri declared that the UDA Caretaker Committee mandate ends in June this year and ruled that those in youth leadership positions that have stayed between 5 to 10 years should step aside for fresh hands.

Before the Olu’s ruling on Friday April 15, Pa. Monday Jemeregbe Tonwe was the Olare-Aja of Ureju before members of his family relocated him from the community contrary to the new policy direction of the palace.

Some prominent indigenes of Ureju Community, including a pioneer member of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Oritsetimeyin Orugboh, Sunny Jirin-Jeye and John Ofofo, three of whom spoke to Our Correspondent lauded the decision of the Warri Monarch and expressed joy that peace has finally been restored to their community.
