There was palpable anxiety in Delta State, Wednesday September 6, as hundreds of Itsekiri Indigenes protesting at the premises of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, in Warri, blocked the Commission’s office with a coffin, Fresh Angle International, can report.
Their protest, was hinged on NUPRC’s position regarding the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA as it affects Shell Petroleum Development Company’s Otumara flow station in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Despite speculations that NUPRC Head Office in Abuja had directed the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company and Chevron Nigeria Limited, to deal directly with their host communities, the angry protesters who insisted on the development trusts being backed by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, sat under canopies in front of the NUPRC premises with a Disc Jockey, entertaining them with music.
One of the protesters, Jacob Oligida, who spoke to Our Undercover Reporter on behalf of the protesters in the presence of Chief Omolubi Newuwumi, said they want the Iwere Host Community Development Trust as endorsed by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III to stay, stressing that it will benefit all Itsekiri Communities in Warri Kingdom.
While stating that they're not law breakers, Oligida said they will continue the peaceful protest, until their voices are heard.
