TCN disowns BEDC’s planned two-month power outage in Ekiti, Ondo states

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has disowned the plan by Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, to plunge Ekiti and Ondo states into darkness for two months, effective today, Monday July 1.

TCN in a statement, released on its X handle this morning, Monday July 1, stressed that no such outage request has been approved by its management.

The statement, which was e-signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs of TCN, Ndidi Mbah, noted: “A publication by the BEDC regarding a proposed outage on Osogbo- Akure-Ado-Ekiti 132kV line for the purpose of installing OPGW commencing on 1st July, 2024 has been brought to the notice of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TC.

“TC Management hereby informs the general public that no such outage request has been approved.”

Fresh Angle International, understands that Benin Electricity Distribution Company, earlier in a circular, informed the public, especially its customers in Ekiti and neighbouring Ondo State, of the plan.

However, Ekiti, opposing the move, stated that it amounts to an “unacceptable economic, financial, and social price to be paid by the citizens of the state.”

The government asked for the suspension of such a plan and demanded an emergency meeting with the stakeholders affected, scheduled for Tuesday, July 2 at the Ekiti State Government Secretariat.
