Ekiti State Government has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teaching and non-teaching staff into public schools across the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, explaining that the recruitment is part of a continuous exercise aimed at addressing gaps and shortfalls created by workforce attrition due to mass migration, resignation, as well as mandatory or voluntary retirement upon reaching the required retirement age or maximum years of service.
He noted that approximately 170 teaching staff would be exiting the public service before the end of the year, emphasising that a properly structured recruitment exercise remains the best approach to preventing staff shortages and the challenges that may arise from them.
Providing details of the approval, Olatunbosun stated that the vacancies include 1,600 teaching positions, comprising 1,066 for degree holders and 534 for National Certificate of Education (NCE) holders. He added that 200 non-teaching staff positions have also been approved.
He assured that the recruitment process would be strictly merit-based, adding that successful candidates would be deployed to 192 public secondary schools, particularly in remote and underserved areas of the state.
