Strong indications have emerged that fresh economic crisis may hit Nigeria from Friday July 4, if nothing urgent is done to avert plot by Itsekiri Nation to totally shutdown critical oil and gas facilities in the Warri Federal Constituency, parts of Delta Central and Edo State.

The threat was fallout of a communique released by the leadership of Iwere Indigenous Peoples' Movement, IIPM, after an emergency meeting held in Warri, Delta State, Wednesday July 2, 2025.

IIPM in the communiqué, alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, backed by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had concluded plans to release a "compromised final report of ward and unit delineation in Warri Federal Constituency," despite the "legitimate, historical, statistical and scientifically verified documents submitted to INEC and office of the National Security Adviser, after release of the obnoxious delineation report earlier presented to stakeholders in Asaba, Delta State."

In the communiqué, which was signed by Messrs Emiko Oghomienor, Ofoyeju Izuagie, Appearance Afejuku, Samuel Meyiwa Khalil, Ejeh Wilson and David Mamah, IIPM hinted that arrangements have been concluded to totally shutdown all oil and gas facilities, including tank farms, export terminals, flow stations, depots, operational offices of International Oil and Gas Companies, IOCs as well as sea ports in Itsekiri homelands from 12 midnight on Friday July 4, 2025.

According to them, since the Federal and Delta State governments, "have decided to disregard the Itsekiri people known for respecting the rule of law, maintaining peace and security, we are left with no other option than to toe the path the government prefers." They averred: "Treating our collective resolve with levity, would have grave consequences for the socio-economic life of the country. We will not allow any jot of our homeland to be forcefully and illegitimately given to our customary tenants, under the pretext of ward and unit delineation. The about-to-be-released INEC final delineation report for Warri Federal Constituency, made nonsense of INEC's guidelines, rubbished court judgements on ownership of lands in the Warri Federal Constituency and portrays Nigeria as a lawless state."

When contacted, one of the Itsekiri political leaders and one time APC candidate for the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives election, Alex Eyengho, said, "It is an open-secret that the entire so-called delineation excercise was highly dollarized by the leadership of the Gbaramatu-Ijaw and their few Urhorbo cohorts of Idimi-Sobo and Agbassa. It is sad that the leadership of INEC from top to bottom are complicit in the dollarization of the scam in the name of delineation of the Warri Federal Constituency. It is even absurd for some elements in the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to be seemingly fighting the Itsekiri using that respectable platform, allegedly also as a result of dollarization. Let this be known to INEC, security agencies, Nigeria and the world, that it is only after you kill all Itsekiris living here on earth that this highly dollarized INEC 'proposal of the so-called delineation of the Warri Federal Constituency,' can become permanent. The Itsekiri shall rather fight and die on their feet than on their knees. The Ijaws of Gbaramatu, their Urhorbos of Idimi-Sobo and Agbassa extraction, including their dollarized acomplices in INEC and some compromised security agencies have all murdered sleep and shall sleep no more. As for the government at all levels, the Itsekiri will from this momement take their destiny in their own hands because it is now manifestly clear to the blind and resoundingly loud to the deaf that the cockroach can never get justice in a court presided over by the hen. But in all, God almighty and our good ancestors shall give us victory that is based on equity, justice and fair play."
