Warri South - West: UGA Joins forces with Protesters, says Ugborodo suffers severe neglect
A Cross Section of Some of the Protesters

Members of Ugborodo Graduates' Association, UGA, have joined other indigenes of Ugborodo Community in the ongoing protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL and its JV Partner, saying Ugborodo Community continues to suffer severe neglect, despite playing host to Chevron Nigeria Limited.

Ugborodo Indigenes in the early hours of Monday December 15, began a peaceful protest Chevron's EGTL facility, accusing the company of marginalisation.

In a statement made available to Fresh Angle International Monday evening, UGA, averred that Ugborodo Community, lacks basic social amenities such as potable drinking water, stable electricity and meaningful employment opportunities in Chevron Nigeria Limited.

President and Public Relations Officer of UGA, Dogho Besidone and Onogho Gbubemi, respectively, said members of the association remain committed to peaceful engagement and justice for Ugborodo people.

The statement reads inter - alia: "The Ugborodo Graduates Association stands firmly in solidarity with Ugborodo community as the community embarks on a peaceful protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited at the EGTL and Joint Venture (JV) locations.

?

"?This protest is necessitated by what the community describes as a clear breach of Local Content policy and the total marginalization of Ugborodo by Chevron Nigeria Limited. Despite the fact that Ugborodo has contributed immensely to the economic growth of this nation and has truly “laid the golden eggs” for Nigeria, the community continues to suffer severe neglect.

?

"?Ugborodo community lacks basic social amenities such as potable drinking water, stable electricity, and meaningful employment opportunities for its people. Chevron Nigeria Limited has consistently failed to fulfill its corporate social responsibility to the host community.

?

"?We therefore call on the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to urgently listen to the legitimate demands of the Ugborodo community. In particular, we demand the provision of gainful employment and direct job opportunities for Ugborodo indigenes, especially positions that befit qualified graduates. Ugborodo is home to competent and capable graduates who are ready and willing to contribute meaningfully to the operations and success of Chevron Nigeria Limited.

?

"?The Ugborodo Graduates Association remains committed to peaceful engagement and justice for our people."
