Government activities at the Bomadi local government council secretariat have been temporarily grounded by the rampaging flood that has continued despite efforts of both the state and local governments.

Our Bomadi Correspondent reports that workers who came to work at the secretariat were shocked by the ravaging flood, which has now taken over parts of the secretariat complex.

The council’s Head of Personnel Management, Mr. Sunday Ekeremor in a chat with Fresh Angle described the situation as disastrous and ordered the evacuation of all sensitive items as well as important documents to safer places. The HPM revealed that plans are being finalized by the council authority to relocate to a temporary location so as not to ground government activities in the area.
The submerged sections of the council include Environment Department, political block and the Exco Unit as well as Finance and Treasury Departments.
At the time of filling in this report, only a few workers and some Heads of Department were seen at work.
According to an undisclosed source, some angry youths of the community sealed off the two channels directing water from the council to the swamps in an attempt to save their houses from being overrun by the flood.

Meanwhile the HPM of Bomadi local government council has set up a resettlement camp at Ogodobiri community as part of efforts to cushion the effect of flood victims in Bomadi local government area, bringing the total number of resettlement camps in the local government to 3.
Addressing flood victims during a tour of the local government area, the Head of Personnel Management, HPM of the local government, Mr. Sunday Ekeremor put the figure of the number of displaced persons in the area at 3,000.

According to the council boss, some communities which were not badly affected are now submerged by the flood. He noted that some of the communities like Ogo-eze, Ekamta, Ogodobiri, Okoloba, and other communities in the area are far from the location of the existing camps, which according to him poses a real challenge for movement of displaced persons to the camps.
Mr. Ekeremor has inaugurated a 7-man Local Emergency Management Committee, LEMC to respond to emergencies arising from the floods.
