Blue Economy: NCDMB, Cosmosparks move to address shortage of manpower
Trainers & trainees, on the first day of the training


As part of efforts to address shortage of manpower in the marine and blue economy, the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board NCDMB in conjunction with Cosmosparks Engineering Limited, on Monday May 25, began a 5-day intensive training on Engine Maintenance, Boat Building, Navigation and Safety.

 

 

Our Co-Publisher /Managing Editor, reports that the training holding at the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA facility in Warri, Delta State, is being attended by 50 participants drawn from Delta State and Ologbo in Edo State.

One of the facilitators, who spoke during the opening ceremony, Mr. Charles Lori, explained that the training was put together to build the capacity of youths in the marine and blue economy.

He stated that youths in the area were not taking advantage of the potentials within the marine economy, hence the NCDMB in collaboration with Cosmosparks Engineering Limited, decided to train the participants on Engine Maintenance, Boat Building, Navigation and Safety.

“During the training, the participants will be engaged in class work and taken to where they can have practical experience, in coupling and decoupling of engine. This is one training that will redirect the focus of our youths in the marine economy, so that they can be useful to themselves”, Mr. Lori, explained.

Two of the trainees; Mr. Preye Joseph Torru and Mrs. Antonia Okurobo, who spoke to This Newspaper, during day-one of the training, looked forward to interesting five days and the potential of building their capacities in boat building and navigation, respectively.

Community Development Advocate, Mr. Amaechi Ofeoritse Ogbonna, who is one of the facilitators, was on ground to ensure that the five-day training billed to end Friday May 29, achieves its intended goals.
