The United Labour Congress, ULC, has called on the Federal Government to inject recovered loots into reviving Ajaokuta Steel Company and other ailing industries in the country, Our Kogi State Correspondent reports.
The National President of ULC, Comrade Joe Ajaero stated this at the inauguration of the new executive members of the Kogi State Council of the union in Lokoja.
Comrade Ajaero who was represented by the National Auditor of ULC, Comrade Otori Salihu Maliki, said injecting the recovered funds into Ajaokuta Steel Company, the textile industry, Mining and Petroleum Sectors would help create the needed jobs for Nigerians.
He maintained that as a matter of necessity, the federal government should implement a minimum wage that was realistic to meet the current economic and market realities.
The National President of the ULC charged the new executive to carry out their statutory obligation to the well-being and welfare of Nigerian workers.
In his acceptance speech, the ULC Chairman, Kogi State Council, Comrade Eleojo Simenon Opaluwa urged the Kogi State Government to immediately release the report of the staff verification exercise and pay up all arrears of salary and entitlement owed workers.
Comrade Opaluwa explained that the congress would ensure a pragmatic and progressive labour movement that promotes equity and fairness in workplaces.
