The National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDE-A, has strongly condemned the recent declaration of Amnesty for selected "self-acclaimed" militants in Ondo State by Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, General Paul Boroh (Rtd.).
The NCNDE-A which is led by Eshanekpe Israel, popularly known as Akpodoro in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, stressed that the perceived “selective granting of amnesty would not solve restiveness in the Niger Delta”, noting that apart from fanning the embers of vested interests in the region, such action by the FG could incite crisis.
Akpodoro’s group accused Gen. Boroh of deliberately empowering Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, faithful to slight those ex-militants who worked for the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The statement decried the President's alleged appointment of non APC members, saying they have turned out to be major stumbling block to the growth and development of the people of the region.
"Appointing characters like Boroh and others by the President was a major error that may cause us so much regrets in the region. How can a so called Coordinator of Amnesty Programme retail amnesty to his loyalists taking same to Ondo State where you have militants who are not up what you have in only Ughelli South of Delta State let alone other major stakeholders in the littoral states of the region. I question Boroh's motive of declaring amnesty in Ondo State, leaving other states of the region out, whereas it’s supposed to be a federal government programme."
While stating that the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme was running the office as his personal estate, the group also berated the FG for the rumoured extension of the tenure of members of board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, saying it was wrong for the administration to change the rule of the game midway.
"From NDDC, Amnesty Programme and other development agencies of the FG in the region where the president appointed erroneously members of the opposition party to run its affairs, such persons are engaged in building war chest for their parties at the expense of the APC. We have made this known long ago to Nigerians publicly and authorities that Boroh is against this administration and has been doing everything possible to undermine peace and security in the region. The President's appointees from the Delta region are worst in Nigeria. No thanks to the fact that the region is a PDP stranglehold, the President's appointees who are PDP members have no problem empowering the party youth at the detriment of the APC foot soldiers. The earlier the president corrects this anomalies the better for us as members of the APC or else we would have a greater battle to dethrone the monster of the PDP in the region. We heard on good authority that one of the directors in NDDC will be running for political in 2019 general elections on the platform of the PDP, it's as bad as that." The Urhobo - born former warlord stated.
Recalled that Gen. Boroh (Rtd.) had last week granted amnesty to militants in Ondo State in fulfillment of his promise to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, during a visit to the state in September this year.
