The Delta State District Chairman of Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, MWUN, Comrade Boro Ekotoro says without seamen, Nigeria economy is nowhere, stressing that nothing can be exported or imported into the country.
Comrade Ekotoro who made the declaration during the swearing- in of a new- 12 man executive to pilot the affairs of Escravos Seafarers unit for the next four years noted that the Escravos Unit of Maritime Worker’s Union of Nigeria is very vital to the nation’s economy due to the location of major multinational companies in the area.
The immediate past chairman of Escravos Seafarers Unit of MWUN, Comrade William Daje while rendering his stewardship noted that his leadership was able to create 75% employment for youths within the unit and promised to mobilize support for members of the new executive.
Our Correspondent reports that while Comrade Ebami Etunokan will serve as the new chairman of Escravos Seafarers Unit, Comrade Glory Ireyenieju, Nene Louis, Moses Edun,………………….. and John Daje were elected Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and PRO/ Ex Official respectively in the 12- man executive.
Newly elected chairman of the unit, Comrade Ebami Etunokan while responding on behalf of members of the new executive commended the out -gone chairman for his democratic disposition, thanked members of the union for their support and promised not to let them down in his quest at improving member’s welfare.
