A 4-man robbery gang was on Sunday July 3 setablaze by angry mob in front of God’s Kingdom Society along Warri Sapele road,Warri, Delta State, after men of the Nigerian Army killed two members of the gang.
An eye witness, Mr. Tony Uwarameh whonarrated the incident to Our SeniorCorrespondent at the scene, said the four man gang was caught whilestealing phones, cash and bracelets from innocent citizens at Enerhen. The gangwas in the process of stealing a necklace from a victim when men of the NigeriaArmy coming from the Hausa quarters end of Warri ran into them and immediatelygun down two of them.
While the other two were apprehended by angrymob as they tried to escape. It was reliably gathered that all four members ofthe gang, including the two killed by men of the Nigerian Army weresubsequently set ablaze by the mob.
Another eye witness who corroborated thestory said the incident occurred about 3:30 in the afternoon. He gave the namesof the three members of the gang as Ferguson,Feghor and Daniel. He disclosed that they were residents of Enerhen who hasbeen terrorizing innocent passersby for a long time.
Fresh Angle could not speak withthe police team from ‘A’ Division in Warri who stormed the scene as they wereobviously indisposed to media briefing even though they allowed Journalists todo their jobs. One of them openly warned a reporter not to take photograph ofthe police together with the remains of the robbers.
Fresh Angle can report that theburning of the four robbers is coming on the heels of the burning of two othersin Airport road by Total filling station in Warri Thursday June 30 as well asthe killing of another hoodlum caught vandalizing armoured cable by mobilepolicemen on early morning patrol along the Ugbuwangue end of NPA Expressway inWarri. Two other members of the gang vandalizing the armoured cable used forstreet light beautification escaped while another member of the gang wasallegedly arrested.
It would be recalled that we had reported apossible upsurge of crime and other vices following increase in unemployment inDelta State.
