KogiDecides Fallout: I am dying, 23-year old hit by bullet from Helicopter, cries out
Deborah Omoba, at the Federal Medical Center in Lokoja

A 23-year old lady, Deborah Omoba, who was reportedly hit by bullet from Helicopter during the just concluded Kogi State Governorship election, has cried out, saying she is dying slowly.

Deborah Omoba, was still on admission at the Federal Medical Center in Lokoja, as at 3:30pm today, Wednesday November 27, when this report was filed.

There had been reports that no fewer than four people were killed when the Helicopter allegedly unleashed bullets and teargas on voters on queue, specifically in areas suspected to be strong hold of the opposition PDP.

Cleric in charge of The Apostolic Church, Ajara Lokoja, Pastor Abraham Olusegun, while narrating the incident to newsmen today, Wednesday November 27, at the premises of the Church where Debora resides, said Debora was sleeping in her residence at the Pastorium of the Apostolic Church, when the bullet allegedly released from the Helicopter, pierced through her body and landed at the upper region of her thigh, very close to her private part.

Abraham Olusegun explained that the victim, daughter of one the Overseers of the Church, was observing her siesta on that fateful day, when she suddenly screamed from her sleep.

According to him, when they rushed to the room, they found Deborah writhing in the pool of her blood, leaving the upper region of the thigh, very close to her vagina badly battered.

Pastor Olusegun, who said the victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Lokoja, narrated how the Church was viciously attacked during the last general election, a development which he said gripped him and his family members with morbid fear as the police and other security agencies, “did nothing even when the case was reported to them”.

When newsmen visited the female surgical ward, where the victim was admitted, Debora was seen lying critically ill on the bed.

Deborah who spoke in faint voice, stated: “I am feeling pains all over my thigh as the hope of becoming somebody that will impact meaningfully in the country, is gradually fading away with my present situation. I am dying slowly, the pains is becoming unbearable”.

The Head of Clinical Services at the Medical Centre, Dr. Taiwo Jones, who also spoke on the incident, said the pellet was lodged at a very sensitive part of the victim’s body, which makes the extraction of the bullet at the moment very difficult.

According to him, whenever a bullet is lodged at a very sensitive area of the body, it could cause more damage, saying the best thing to do is to leave it for some time and allow the body system to react and push the bullet to the surface, which will make it easier to be removed through surgery.

He explained: "The victim is now in a stable condition as all necessary medications and treatment have been carried out on her".

Dr. Jones however narrated their experience during the election, when he claimed that the said Helicopter also released bullets on the premises of the hospital, which made everyone to scamper for safety.

According to him, it was Providence that saved staff and patients of the medical center, “as a live bullet was recovered at the Consultant Office, while another live bullet was recovered at the Hospital Library”.

He specifically said the Corp Member attached to the library had to run away from her house, because of the sporadic gunshots.

He said when the management of the medical center reported the incident to the police with the live bullets, it was discovered that the bullets released by the Helicopter, “were more deadly and bigger than that of the Ak47 rifle”.

When contacted for his reaction over the incident, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, feigned ignorance of any Helicopter releasing tear gas or gunshots on the election day, saying”, how can it happen when we are not in a war situation?”
