Chairman of Delta State Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation, Mr. Frank Omare says the state government shut down the popular Effurun Market in Uvwie local government on Saturday May 17 due to street trading, unclean environment as well as display of wares by the traders on the centre of the road.
He gave the explanation during a chat with newsmen at the Effurun Market square weekend.
Mr. Omare who is also the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, warned the traders to desist from trading on the roads, median and to always keep the market clean.
While the exercise lasted in Warri South, Udu and Uvwie local government areas, 167 persons were arrested prosecuted and sent to jail by a Special Sanitation Mobile Court put together by the state government.
