14-year-old Ooreofe wins 2026 African Spelling Bee

14-year-old, Adeolu Oluwadamilola Ooreofe, has won the prestigious 2026 African Spelling Bee in the Junior Category held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Ekiti State-born Ooreofe, had come 2nd in the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee, second in the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee, fifth in the 2025 African Spelling Bee, and second in the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee. 

She first dominated the Ekiti State qualifiers, secured second place at the national level in Port Harcourt, and then outshone brilliant young minds from over 20 African countries to claim the ultimate continental crown.  

With remarkable poise, sharp intelligence, and unwavering focus, this young star from St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, has proven that consistent dedication turns dreams into dazzling reality. 

As the newly crowned African Junior Champion, she received a $5,000 educational scholarship and is now set to proudly represent Africa at the World Spelling Bee in China later this year.
