Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has promised to create the enabling environment for National Lottery Regulatory Commission, NLRC business to thrive in Delta State, Fresh Angle International can report.
Dr. Okowa who was represented by his Special Adviser on Investment, Hon. Sunday Ozege made the promise during the NLRC Delta State Zonal Office Stakeholders’ Forum held Thursday April 21 at Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area in Delta State.
The Governor while noting that there was a high level of unemployment, kidnapping, vandalism, communal unrest and ritual killing in the country, stated that the lottery programme if well deployed can create employment opportunities.
He charged staff and management of the NLRC to uphold the values of the commission and do things the right way.
Speaking on the theme “Lottery, A Tool For Sustainable Development”, the Director General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr. Adolphus Joe Ekpe, represented by the Director Admin & Finance, Adamus Sifawa, noted that “humanity has the ability to make development sustainable to ensure that it meets the needs of the people without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

He added that the concept of sustainable development is embedded in National Lottery Act, NLC 2005, section 24, which requires that 20% of proceeds of all lottery operations should be remitted to the National Lottery Trust Fund, NLTF for deployment towards execution of good causes/ developmental projects in Nigeria.
Speakers at the event explained the difference between lottery and gambling, noting that 50% proceeds go for prizes, 20% to NLTF and 30% to operators. He quipped that lottery is one way in which government generates revenue.
Present in the forum were representative of the State Governor, representative of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, representative of Ovie of Uvwie, representative of Uvwie Local Government Chairman and representative of DG NLRC.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes to lottery lucky dip winners.
