Peace is possible in Ekpan, CDC Chairman declares

The Chairman of Ekpan Community Development Committee, CDC, Mr. Ofugara Silva says that peace is possible in Ekpan Community, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Ekpan Community Development Chairman made the declaration Thursday April 28 during the inauguration of Ekpan Community Peace Building Network/ Town Hall Meeting organized by the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, at Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area.

Mr. Silva assured that he is going to work hard with the newly inaugurated peace building network in making sure they reconcile the warring faction for peace and development to be brought to the once peaceful Ekpan community.

Performing the inauguration of the Peace Building Network Committee, which comprises of men and women from trade unions, religious organizations and other groups in the area, National Coordinator of Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, Comrade Sheriff Mulade charged the newly inaugurated Peace Building Committee to see themselves as Peace Ambassadors and always work for realization of peace at all times. He noted, “it’s only the people of Ekpan that can provide peace in Ekpan, CEPEJ is only spear-heading the peace process”.

Also speaking, a representative of CSP Chris Sogbara, Divisional Police Officer, Ekpan, DSP Mustapha Bolaji, said that in order to achieve peace in Ekpan, there’s need to look at the remote and immediate causes of the crisis in the area and look for workable solutions.

He decried the high level of arms proliferation in Ekpan Community and urged the traditional institution and parents to call the youths to order.

Others who spoke at the event include the Pastor in-Charge of Four Square Gospel Church, Ekpan, Rev. Emmanuel Imeleye, Dr. Mulade, Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo Traders and Independent Workers’ Association, Charles Oguji and others.
