Crack in PDP exposed as youths allegedly attack ex State Official
Mr. Tunde Fregene

The seeming crack in Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State came to the fore Thursday October 13 when four young men, including the Chairman of PDP, Esisi Ward in Warri South Local Government, Mr. Peter Tidi, allegedly attacked the immediate past Delta State Assistant Secretary of PDP, Mr. Tunde Fregene during the visit of the State Leadership of PDP led by Barr. Kingsley Esiso to the party secretariat in Warri, Fresh Angle International can report.

Though the altercation which appeared to have deeper political inclination between two contending forces in Warri South Constituency 1 was not noticed by many at the event, the immediate past State Assistant Secretary of the party, Mr. Tunde Fregene, who claimed to have been attacked by Mr. Peter Tidi, Ayefe Nunu and two other young men in the presence of Madam Gladys Oyen, Warri South Council Supervision for Education, Linda Ikpuri, Dele Nani, Madam Elizabeth Oruru as well as Ward Chairmen, has petitioned Chairman of PDP in Warri South Local Government Area, Mr. Johnson Agbeyegbe.

Mr. Peter Tidi

In the petition made available to Fresh Angle International Friday October 14, Mr. Fregene explained, “I had a phone call and I moved into the office to answer my call, when I was returning to my seat, I heard Peter Tidi talking at the top of his voice, I then stopped to ask what was the matter and he responded by asking me to get out of his sight. I quietly left without saying a word, but surprisingly, the same Peter Tidi, came in-company of four other young men that I have not met before and also including Ayefe Nunu, walked up to me immediately after the closing prayer. He used the water can in his hand to hit my chest three times, when I was to respond, I was advised to leave him and go, while walking away again, he came with his gang and slapped me twice on my face and with my medicated glasses on. In the process, my medicated glasses got destroyed. My Gionee M5 phone was stolen and a cash of thirty eight thousand got lost”.

The petition which appealed to the Warri South PDP Chairman to address the complain and ensure justice was done to bring about discipline in the party at the Local Government level, copied the State Chairman of the party, Warri South PDP Leader, Chief (Dr.) Joseph Otumara, Political Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Hon. Omimi Esquire as well as Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan.

A political leader in Warri who prefers anonymity told your Soar-Away International Tabloid that some of them were not disposed to Peter Tidi becoming Chairman of PDP at Esisi Ward as a result of fear that he might not be able to pilot affairs of the party at the ward level because majority of elders and people of Okere Community do not want him.

But in a swift reaction, Mr. Peter Tidi stated that he was not talking to Mr. Tunde Fregene and was only addressing those blocking  their (Ward Chairmen) view to leave during the State Chairman’s visit to the party secretariat in Warri, when Mr. Fregene misconstrued his comments and called him a “ mad man” as well as “insulted my father”.

Mr. Tidi explained further, “I was on my way to Nana College Road, (Warri) where I saw Tunde Fregene and asked him why he cursed my father. We seized each other and did not hit each other”, adding, “he pulled his wristwatch and eye glasses, apparently positioned for possible combat, but people intervened”.

On the allegation that Okere Community never wanted him to be Chairman of PDP Esisi Ward as demanded by the member representing Warri South Constituency 1 in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Omawumi Beatrice Udoh, Mr. Tidi quipped, “the community is not a political party and does not have the right to determine who occupies a position. They wanted somebody that they can control, but they feel they cannot control me, hence they said they don’t need me. The Ogieboro of Okere, E.F. Esisi is not in any political party, but businessmen and community leader”.

As at the time of this report, there was however moves to resolve the brewing political rift which appears to be a reflection of disagreement between Hon. Omawumi, Udoh and Hon. Godwin Abigor, both of whom are political leaders from Okere Community in Warri South Local Government Area.
