The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Chief Gani Adams, has charged Yorubas not to lose their identity amid their rich cultural heritage  and foriegn influence.

Our Oyo State Correspondent reports that Adams gave the charge at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Saturday September 7, during the grand finale of the 8th Oranyan Festival.

According to Adams, it has become a norm for Yoruba people not to value their traditional culture and “increasingly embarrassing to see foreigners embracing our culture more than we the owners”.

He continued, “what do we see today, we see our children having flair for foreign culture than ours, which has made them to begin to lose their cultural identity. I must commend Kabiyesi, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, for being a promoter of Yoruba culture. He has continued to champion the course of the Yorubas anywhere he goes”.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo who said he has been at the forefront of championing and promoting the Yoruba culture, by hosting and sponsoring different festivals, averred that the Oranyan Festival had played a significant role in uniting the people of Oyo as well as showcasing the rich cultural potentials of the area.
