A University don and Head of Civil/Structural Engineering, University of Benin, Engr. (Dr.) Sylvester Obinna Osuji as well as one-time Head of Corporate Civil Engineering, SPDC, Engr. Chris Ekpekurede have identified versatility of Engineers, incorporation of entrepreneurship skills in Engineering curriculum and the involvement of Engineers in policy decisions, as key components to Engineering Entrepreneurship capable of tackling the growing employment in Nigeria.

This assertion was made Saturday, June 20 in Effurun, Delta State when the Warri Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE held her public lecture series/induction of 60 new members.

They tasked young engineers to spice up their intelligence with passion, good communication skills and ability to make bold as well as quick decisions, noting that Engineers should be burdened with the responsibility of creating jobs as a result of their natural and professional creative abilities.

President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi in a message stressed the need for Engineers to lay more emphases on Entrepreneurship “because there are no jobs anywhere anymore”.

Engr. Olorunfemi who was represented by a National Executive Committee Member, Engr. Denis A.A. Dania, tasked members of NSE Warri Branch to fashion out a deliberate arrangement for the mentorship of younger Engineers to enable them cope with the present realities.

Earlier in an address, the Warri Branch Chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr. J.O. Eghwrudje, explained that the essence of the public lecture series was to encourage Engineers to become business oriented.

Engr. Eghwrudje enjoined members of NSE to meet up their financial obligations to ensure the society attain her goals and objectives, even as he commended individuals as well as corporate bodies that contributed to the success of the Public Lecture Series.
