The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum, ICF has shelved its planned protest against the Delta State Government and DESOPADEC over unpaid receipts for jobs executed, following the timely intervention of DESOPADEC Managing Director, Olorogun Williams Makinde.
Chairman of DESOPDEC Indigenous Contractors Forum, ICF, Mr. Francis Obule made the disclosure Tuesday March 15 in Warri during a chat with Our Correspondent shortly after a meeting of the contractors.
Mr. Obule explained that the DESOPADEC MD appealed to them at the expiration of their 14-day ultimatum and additional seven days notice, to exercise patience, saying he was at Asaba to straighten issues with the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, with a view to incorporating the contractors’ payment in the Commission’s 2016 budget so as to facilitate their payment.
According to him, DESOPADEC MD’s position was communicated to them through the Commission’s Director of Social Services, Hon. Ochor Ochor at a meeting with the contractors in Warri.
Secretary of DESOPADEC ICF, Mr. Toritseju Mabiaku noted that the Director General on Security Matters to Governor Okowa, Hon. David Tonwe wrote them on the need to down-play the planned protest on the promise that the State Government will address their grievance, even as he stressed that if the State Government fail to address the issue they might be compelled to stage the protest later.
