Isoko South workers begin one-week warning strike over unpaid salaries

The Isoko South Local Government Chapter of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE have embarked on a one-week warning strike.

Confirming the development to Our Senior Correspondent in a telephone chat, the Isoko South Chapter Chairman of NULGE, Comrade Glory Onowotu stated that they embarked on the one week warning strike effective Tuesday March 15 with the intent to proceed on indefinite strike if their salary arrears are not paid.

He appealed to the State Government to intervene by augmenting the monthly allocations to the Council.

Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Sir Itiakpo Ikpokpo in his response, sued for patience from the workers, promising that the issue is being addressed, just as he noted that the Council is suffering paucity of fund due to the dwindling monthly federal allocations occasioned by drop in the price of crude oil at the international market.

Investigations reveal that almost all the 25 Local Government Councils in Delta State like majority of their counterparts across the country are being owed average six-month salaries.
