Winner Emerges in maiden edition of CUSTECH VC's cup

Like every other university where the Vice Chancellor's Cup popularly known for short as the VC's Cup which is an inter-departmental tournament for students, the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara, has played the finals in the game of football to mark the maiden edition of the VC's Cup.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Samuel Aniki, who left no stone unturned to see that the tournament which started on the 1st of September, 2023 between the various departments at CUSTECH achieve great success poured encomiums on Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku, the Vice Chancellor which the tournament is named after.

According to Balogun Omeiza David, Head Public Relations Unit, and reports from Ogirima Stephen, the Dean, eulogized him and the entire Management for making the maiden edition of the VC's Cup a huge success. He also commended the students for comporting themselves throughout the period that the tournament lasted.

The finals of the football tournament was between the departments of Software Engineering and Microbiology/Biology. The game ended 3 goals to nil in favour of Microbiology/Biology Departments who lifted the much coveted VC's Cup as proud winners of the maiden edition.

The Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku, who was unavoidably absent was duly represented by the University Librarian, Mr. Jeremiah Salifu.

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that other key staff members who were in attendance to watch the final match were: Director, Academic Planning, Pharm. Muhammed A. Audu, the Principal Accountant, Alh. Muhammed Omeiza Hussein and the Head, Biological Sciences Department, Dr. David Apeh.

While speaking before presenting the trophy to the winners, Mr. Jeremiah Salifu said, "I bring to you all good tidings from the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku who has asked me to represent him in this great event due to a more pressing official engagement he has gone to attend. I am glad to see the professionalism displayed by our students who made it to the finals of the VC's Cup. This is how football stars are raised and discovered and with what I have seen here today on the pitch of play, I am cocksure that some of our students will do well in the near future should they decide to venture into football as a profession. Though their primary aim here on CUSTECH campus is purely academic work however, engaging in sporting and socio-cultural activities is also important in strengthening their immune systems which keeps them perfectly fit for a successful academic work."

In addition, Mr. Jeremiah Salifu, admonished all the departments that participated in the tournament but we're not lucky enough to be the eventual winners. He urged them to always imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship as a day will surely come that they too will lift the trophy as winners.

On the cash gifts presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions by Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku, the University Librarian announced that the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000.00) goes to the Microbiology/Biology Departments, winners of the maiden edition of the VC's Cup.
