The Kogi State House of Assembly has resolved to write a strong worded letter, appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to declare Kogi as an oil producing State, Fresh Angle International can report.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the House also reached a resolution to compel the State Government to set up a department to coordinate oil activities in Kogi State, just as they called on the National Boundary Commission to fast-track its assignment on the border demarcation between Kogi and Anambra States.

The resolutions followed a motion moved on Tuesday November 8 by John Abah of Ibaji Constituency, calling on the State government to expedite action in ensuring that Kogi State is declared an oil producing State by the federal government.

According to the lawmaker, the Federal Government has fully drilled 4 oil wells from its oil exploration activities within Kogi, Edo and Anambra states, saying that 2 out of the 4 wells are located in Ibaji, Kogi State.

The member representing Igalamela Odolu Constituency,  Hon. Friday Sanni who seconded the motion, said the matter before the House deserves a courageous decision for it to stand the test of time, claiming that 10 oil wells was discovered in Igalamela Odolu between 1980-1984.

Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ali Aku opined that Kogi State has more than 50 percent of the oil wells ascribed to neighboring Anambra State.

Fresh Angle International can also report that after contributions from other lawmakers, Speaker of the State House of Assembly subsequently set up a 6-man Adhoc Committee to work out modalities that will ensure Kogi is recognized as an oil producing State.

The Committee which is chaired by John Abah, has Hon. Idakwo Moses, Kekere Sanni, Ahmed Mohammed and Victor Omofaye as members, while Hon. Victor Adejoh will serve as Secretary.

The Committee has been mandated to submit its report on Thursday November 17.
