Akoni Care Foundation Launches “My Hygiene, My Pride” Campaign to Empower Girl Child

A Non-Governmental Organization Akoni Care Foundation has officially launched the “My Hygiene, My Pride” campaign, an initiative dedicated to promoting the health, hygiene, and dignity of the girl Child worldwide.

The announcement was made by the foundation’s executive director Ms Deborah Agbonika, who emphasized the foundation's goal of empowering girls to take control of their hygiene, which will help improve their health and confidence among their equals in the society.

Speaking during an interview with Journalists, Agbonika emphacized that the initiative was born from the understanding that hygiene is not just a matter of health, but one that also affects a girl’s sense of dignity and self-worth.

Explaining further, Agbonika said“When girls are empowered to take care of their hygiene, they are not only improving their health, but also their confidence,”.

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that Agbonika, highlighted the fundamental importance of hygiene for girls, noting that many girls around the world faces  barriers in accessing proper hygiene products and education.

“For many girls, access to hygiene products and education on personal care can make the difference between attending school regularly or staying at home. From menstruation to daily cleanliness, maintaining proper hygiene is essential to a girl’s well-being,.

"However, millions of girls still faces challenges due to lack of access to sanitary pads, clean water, or even basic knowledge about proper hygiene practices.

"At the heart of “My Hygiene, My Pride campaign, it is the vision of my foundation in empowering girls through education and access to essential resources"Agbonika added.

She described the foundation’s goal as straightforward but powerful.

Continuing, She said“ Our organization is committed to provide every girl with the needed tools, education, and resources she needs to maintain her personal hygiene, while also fostering a culture of pride and self-respect.”

"We are also commitment to offering educational workshops and distributing materials about personal hygiene, menstrual health, and the well being of the Girl Child to schools and communities. These efforts aims to break the silence surrounding  stigmatization by ensuring that girls are informed and empowered".

She also added that one of the main challenges girls face is the lack of affordable and accessible sanitary products.

According to Abonika“My Hygiene, My Pride” will distribute essential hygiene items such as sanitary pads, soaps, and clean water to girls in need, by ensuring that they can maintain their dignity and health

"The foundation will collaborate with local communities, schools, and governments to advocate for better sanitation infrastructure and policies that prioritize the health of the girl Child. The aims of this is to create a world where hygiene is recognized as a basic right, and not a luxury.

"The initiative will work to reshape the conversation around hygiene, by encouraging girls to view cleanliness as a sign of strength and self-respect.

“We want every girl to feel proud of her health and her ability to take care of herself. Improved hygiene reduces the risk of infections, diseases, and other complications, by allowing girls to grow with dignity. The foundation’s work is not just important but crucial for the welfare of the girl child

"The success of  “My Hygiene, My Pride” campaign depends on the support of individuals, organizations, and communities who are committed to making a difference.

“We cannot do this alone. Join us in our mission to provide every girl Child with the opportunity to thrive with dignity, health, and pride.”

"Together, the foundation believes it is possible to create a future where every girl has the knowledge and resources to proudly declare, “My Hygiene, My Pride.”
