The theme of the campaign, which is "School is not a scam" was aimed at dis-abusing the minds of students and youth from the Commission's mandate areas.
In her opening remarks, the Head of Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment, CD&PE, Mrs. Chinenye Ezonfade who was ably represented by Mrs. Etume Okeoghene said that the Commission, being an interventionist agency mandated to develop the Commission's mandate areas, was properly positioned by His Excellency Rt. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State and the Board of DESOPADEC led by the duo of the Chairman, Chief John Obukokwho Nani and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Festus Ochonogor to carry out campaigns in the mandate areas to sensitize the students and youth against the inherent danger in the School is a scam mantras in the Commission's mandate areas.
"We are here to let you know that school is not a scam. School is a Bed rock to the development of every society," she said.
Speaking further, she said that the campaign was a monthly activity of the Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment, noting that Orogun Grammar School is amongst the benefiting schools, stating that by the grace of God, the campaign shall also go round other schools.
The program featured a debate between proponents (Miss Ovie Justice and Omovie Favour SS 2) and opponents (Benjamin Praise and Aghogho Oghenegaren SS1) of the school is a scam mantra.
At the keenly contested debate, the proposing side came 1st and 2nd, while the opposing side came 3rd and 4th.
Other speakers who spoke against the theme including Mr. James Ajevabor and Elizabeth Odisu both agreed that school was not a scam, stressing that development in every society, knowledge transfer in the society and formal education couldn't have been made possible in the absence of the school system.
