The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, has described the ' tools dey" phrase used by Comrade Alex Eyengho during a recent media parley in Warri, Delta State, as a literal expression, saying any attempt by Urhobo Progress Union, UPU Youth Wing to interpret the phrase otherwise, " reflects the assumption of the interpreter."
Public Relations Officer, PRO of INYC, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi Awani, who gave the explanation in an electronic statement Friday June 5, noted that the word ' tools' has a broad and commonly understood meaning, encompassing instruments, skills, knowledge, resources and other lawful means used to accomplish legitimate objectives.
The INYC Image Maker, asserted that the Itsekiri Nation, will continue to challenge misinformation, misrepresentation and narratives designed to unfairly vilify Itsekiri people.
The statement, reads: " The attention of the Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) has been drawn to the recent statement issued by the UPU Youth Wing Worldwide concerning remarks allegedly made by respected Itsekiri leaders.
"While every group has the right to express concerns on matters affecting their people, it is important that public discourse is guided by facts, fairness, and consistency rather than selective outrage.
"We find it curious that individuals who now claim to be alarmed by alleged threats from Itsekiri leaders were largely silent when prominent figures from other ethnic groups openly made statements threatening to shut down critical national assets and disrupt activities in Warri and its environs. Such statements generated widespread concern because of their potential impact on peace, public safety, and economic stability.
"It is therefore unfair and misleading to single out the Itsekiri nation while ignoring previous statements that were equally, if not more, provocative in nature.
"With respect to the comments attributed to Sir Alex Eyengho, it is important to clarify that the reference to "tools" was a literal expression.
"The word "tools" has a broad and commonly understood meaning, encompassing instruments, skills, knowledge, resources, and other lawful means used to accomplish legitimate objectives.
" Any attempt to interpret the statement otherwise reflects the assumptions of the interpreter rather than the intention of the speaker.
"The Itsekiri people have always been known for their resilience, courage, and determination in the defence of their heritage, rights, and identity through lawful and constitutional means.
" Throughout history, the Itsekiri nation has remained steadfast in preserving its cultural and historical legacy, and that spirit remains alive today.
"The INYC rejects any attempt to portray the Itsekiri nation as a threat to peace. We remain committed to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and constructive engagement with our Urhobo, Ijaw, and other neighbouring communities. At the same time, we will continue to challenge misinformation, misrepresentation, and narratives designed to unfairly vilify our people.
"We therefore call on all stakeholders, youth organizations, traditional institutions, community leaders, and government authorities to exercise restraint, promote dialogue, and avoid statements capable of inflaming ethnic tensions.
"The future of Delta State and the Niger Delta depends on cooperation, understanding, and respect among all ethnic nationalities.
"The Itsekiri nation remains committed to these ideals while standing firmly in defence of its dignity, heritage, and legitimate interests."
