Wife of the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro, has urged mothers, caregivers and community leaders to take full advantage of the ongoing Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) to improve the health and wellbeing of women and children in the Council area.
Chief Information Officer, Warri South Local Government Council, Mrs. Nkechi Taiye-Awe, reports that Mrs. Agbateyiniro made the call at the official flag-off of the first round of the 2026 MNCHW held on Monday June 22, at the Sub-Secretariat of Warri South Local Government Council.
In her address, the Warri South Chairperson, described the MNCHW as a critical strategy adopted by the National Council on Health to tackle the nutritional and healthcare challenges facing women and children while promoting overall family wellbeing.
She noted that the integrated programme offers essential services, including nutrition interventions, immunization, deworming, family planning and birth registration, adding that every newborn, child, adolescent girl, pregnant woman and breastfeeding mother remains a priority of the Warri South Local Government Area administration.
Mrs. Agbateyiniro further disclosed that the first round of the programme, which runs from June 19 to 23, would see health workers deliver services at primary healthcare centres, schools, markets, churches, mosques and other designated locations across the council area.

She charged parents and caregivers to visit the nearest health centres and strategic locations to access the free services on offer, stressing that collective action was essential to reducing maternal and child mortality in communities.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Warri South Local Health Authority, Dr. Tosan Sagay, underscored the importance of the MNCHW and appealed to community leaders, mothers and caregivers to maximize the healthcare services available during the exercise.
The Nutrition Officer, Mrs. Gladys Otomewo, educated participants on the value of proper nutrition and balanced diets.
She outlined the different food groups and explained how families could derive maximum nutritional benefit from them to achieve better health outcomes.
Also speaking, Mr. Spencer, a representative of the Development Partners, commended the Warri South Local Government administration for prioritizing maternal and child healthcare and reaffirmed his organization's commitment to supporting initiatives that improve health outcomes in the area.
Highpoint of the event was the symbolic flag-off of the 2026 MNCHW by Mrs. Agbateyiniro, marked by the administration of Vitamin A supplements and deworming tablets to a group of children, formally signaling the commencement of the exercise across Warri South Local Government Area.
