Olisa Monitors Clearing of Drains, De - Silting in Kwale

The Member representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality on the Governing Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Dr. Charles Olisa, on Wednesday 24th June, carried out inspection and monitoring exercise of ongoing clearing, de-silting and evacuation of debris, sand and silt from blocked drainage channels and gutters in Kwale.

The intervention covers several key locations currently undergoing de-silting and drainage clearance, including F & F Street (opposite Zenith Bank Plc), APA Street in Kwale and sections of the Kwale–Asaba Expressway among other adjoining areas.

The Member was accompanied on the inspection as usual by Comrade Kingsley Iweka, MNIM, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution who also serves as Lead Coordinator for the drainage clearing, de-silting and evacuation programme across Ndokwa and Ika ethnic nationalities.

Also part of the inspection team were environmental and health officials from Ndokwa West Local Government Area, led by Mr. Clement Okonye, Deputy Director of Environmental Health and Mr. Louis Ogoli, Chief Environmental Health Officer, alongside other departmental staff.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Kwale and the wider Ndokwa ethnic nationality, Deacon Chris Ameachi Nwose, popularly known as “Max B” and Chairman of HostCom Ndokwa ethnic nationality, expressing appreciation to DESOPADEC under the leadership of its Board Chairman, Olorogun Barr. John Nani and Managing Director/CEO, Chief Surv. Festus Ochonogor, also commended the Delta State Government for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention, noting that the project would greatly reduce flooding in the area.

Similarly, Comrade Moonshine Inalu, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ndokwa West Chapter, speaking on behalf of local youths, appreciated DESOPADEC and the State Government for the initiative, describing it as a welcome development that would help mitigate flood risks across the LGA.

In his remarks, Dr. Olisa reaffirmed the commitment of DESOPADEC’s Board and Management under Olorogun Barr. John Nani and Chief Surv. Festus Ochonogor to promptly and effectively address developmental challenges within its mandate areas, including communities in Ndokwa ethnic nationality.

He further advised residents to avoid building on drainage pathways and to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste into gutters, warning that such practices obstruct water flow and contribute significantly to flooding.

Assuring the people that DESOPADEC remains committed to delivering people-focused interventions, including infrastructure development, human capital development, skills acquisition and youth and women empowerment programmes, Dr. Olisa added that ongoing initiatives align with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of the Delta State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
