Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeayin Okowa says oil-rich Ugborodo Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area is too vital to the economy of Delta State in particular and Nigeria as a whole to be left to wallow in perpetual crisis.
Governor Okowa who was represented by Secretary to Delta State Government, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas made the declaration Tuesday, May 30 at the Government House Annex, Warri during the inauguration of the enlarged executive of Ugborodo Community Management Committee, UCMC led by Barr. Austin Oborogbeyi.
Dr. Okowa who said the persons inaugurated were those nominated by the five kindred communities that make up the entire Ugborodo people, noted that they are to manage the affairs of the community for a period of only one year and appealed to the people to always employ dialogue to resolve all their issues no matter how critical.
He stated that the government is committed to sustainable peace and development in the state, noting that their disagreement should not scare away investors or lead to the re-location of existing companies from the area.
Our Correspondent reports that Governor Okowa charged them to set-up sub-committees to assist in the smooth running of the affairs of the entire Ugborodo.
The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli was represented by Chiefs Yaya Pessu, Clement Malemi and Mercy Olowu, a prominent Ugborodo women leader.
Speaking with newsmen at the inauguration ceremony witnessed by the entire leadership made up of elders, youth executive and women, former Vice Chairman of Ugborodo Community Trust, Mr. Isaac Botosan called on all sons and daughters of Ugborodo to join hands with the new executive, saying that the inauguration marks a watershed in the history of the people.
While lauding Governor Okowa for answering the appeal of the community to inaugurate the executive, Mr. Isaac Botosan stated that it was a dream come true for him and other selfless Ugborodo indigenes that have fought tirelessly for the growth of Ugborodo.
Barr. Austin Oberogbeyi in his remark promised not to let the state government down in the discharge of their duties and stressed that it is both daunting and arduous.
He called on the state government to come heavily on all those still bent on fomenting trouble for the new executive, noting that there cannot be development in an atmosphere of chaos.
He promised to set up 13 sub-committees to assist in managing Ugborodo affairs and bring the needed peace as well as development to the community.
Other members of the UCMC include, Dr. Ayo Ayomike, Secretary, Emma Meke, 1st Vice-Chairman and Madam Roseline Asin, Treasurer.
