# EndSARS: Communicating more would reduce our pains - Okowa

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, says there is a lesson to be learned from the recent EndSARS protests, noting that communicating more with the people (governed) would reduce the pains "we feel".

The Governor, who acknowledged that the ruling class at all levels have not met the people's expectations in terms of deliverables, made the assertion during a town hall meeting held in Warri, Delta State, Friday October 29, for representatives of youth bodies and organizations from Delta South and Central Senatorial Districts of the state.

While stating that the EndSARS protests were not just about the police, Dr. Okowa, disclosed plans to set up security and human rights committee in the state, with a view to effectively addressing cases of human rights' abuse.

According to him, 70 to 80% of the state government revenue is being spent on about 100,000 people in the public service, out of an estimated six million inhabitants in the state, hence his administration is investing in skills' acquisition training for youths.

He called on the Federal Government to dredge phase 2 of the Warri River, after completing phase 1, saying even though there are no industries in Delta State, "we created difficult times for the few around".

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael E. Tidi, who addressed the press shortly after the town hall meeting, thanked Governor Okowa for availing Delta youths the opportunity to interact and directly hear from him.

The Warri South Local Government Chief Executive, commended youths from Delta South and Central for their peaceful disposition, adding that a lot of them spoke their mind during the conversation.

Dr. Tidi, expressed delight that the governor has promised to sustain engagement of the youths, noting that it would bring government closer to the people and enhance understanding of governance on the part of the youths.
