It was funfair, Thursday December 10 as children, other family members, friends and neighbours gathered to celebrate Commander Sonni Ometie (Rtd.) on the occasion of his 70th birthday at his resident in Warri, Delta State.

In a surprised birthday bash organized by Rtd. Commander Ometie's daughter and her husband, Mr. Remy & Barrister (Mrs.) Tsholaye Odimegwu, Engr. Matthias Pessu & family, Mr. Daniel Ometie and others, they thanked God for the good health He granted the septuagenarian.

While thanking God for her father, Barr. (Mrs.) Odimegwu, explained that they had to organize the bash, “because 70 years is an age to remember”, describing Commander Ometie as a loving and caring man, “who is special to all around him and beyond”.

A son in-law to Rtd. Commander Ometie, Mr. Remy Odimegwu, described the celebrant as a very straight forward and industrious personality.

Engr. Matthias Pessu and family, said they decided to join others in celebrating Commander Ometie, “because he loves giving and he is a friendly person”, adding that apart from being a retired Security Chief with Navy background, Commander Ometie has vast experience, widely-travelled and exposed.

Engr. Pessu said: "He's worth celebrating, because he's a strong man, who doesn't depend on his friends as a retired military officer, but takes good care of himself”.

The celebrant, Commander Sonni Ometie (Rtd) in an exclusive chat with Our Senior Correspondent, stated: “I am glad celebrating 70 years strong. I realized I have good friends, who are contented. Good friends don’t mean money, it means trust, care and love.

"I cherish my friends, my friendship doesn't end at work place and friendship is good, I advise friends to be patient and be nice to people".

His younger brother, Mr.  Daniel Ometie, eulogized Commander Ometie, saying: “He made me to be very focused in life and his (Commander Ometie) corrections have made me a great person”.

Delta State Deputy Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barr. Ada-Val Arenyeka, other political bigwigs as well as close associates attended the event.
