GINGER AND GARLIC TEA

This topic is a favorite of mine because I’m going to tell you a little secret about the ginger and garlic herb. I’m also going to tell you the health benefits of these herb plants, what they do in our bodies and how we can ingest them rightly, enjoying them all the same, in a simple tea recipe. I will start with garlic.

GARLIC:  I believe this herb isn’t uncommon to us, everybody has heard of garlic whether you have eaten it or not. This herb has a lot to offer but people underestimate its benefits because of its unpleasant smell. I know you would say but it’s true it doesn’t really smell well you know and I’m going to say you are right but does it really matter when you stand to get so much more if you can stand it? The reason why garlic smells that bad is because of a compound called ALLICIN. This enters the body from the digestive tract and travels all over the body, where it exerts its potent biological effects. Garlic supplementation is known to boost the function of the immune system. Taking raw garlic every day helps prevent common illness like flu and common cold. High doses of garlic appear to improve blood pressure of those with known high blood pressure (hypertension). In some instances, supplementation can be as effective as regular medications (that is taking the raw herb).

Now let’s discuss ginger, ginger is also as popular as garlic as a herb or as a spice in the kitchen

GINGER: I believe you must have heard about this amazing root herb. Ginger is not only popular at home in the kitchen as a great spice, it is also well known in the medicinal field for its therapeutic qualities.

Ginger contains very potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols. These substances are believed to explain why so many people with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis experience reductions in their pain levels and improvements in their mobility when they consume ginger regularly. In two clinical studies involving patients who responded to conventional drugs and those who didn't, physicians found that 75% of arthritis patients and 100% of patients with muscular discomfort experienced relief of pain and/or swelling.Ginger's anti-vomiting action has also been shown to be very useful in reducing the nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, even the most severe form, hyperemesis gravidum, a condition which usually requires hospitalization. In a double-blind trial, ginger root brought about a significant reduction in both the severity of nausea and number of attacks of vomiting in 19 of 27 women in early pregnancy (less than 20 weeks). Unlike antivomiting drugs, which can cause severe birth defects, ginger is extremely safe, and only a small dose is required.

Having gone through some of the health benefits of these special herbs, I want to share a recipe on how to prepare homemade garlic and ginger tea. Bellow are simple and easy steps to follow

Firstly you have to purchase the garlic and ginger you need form the market

Remove the scales of the garlic, wash your ginger, place it in a flat plate

Using a kitchen grater, grate the garlic and ginger (depending on the amount you want to make i.e if you want to make a mug of this herbal drink you need just two small lobes of garlic and an average rhizoid of ginger)

Boil water, pour in the mug, add one bag of Lipton tea

Put the grated ginger and garlic in the Lipton tea

Allow it to diffuse for like 10 min

Use a small net filter to remove the diffused ginger and garlic in the Lipton tea

You can add ½ cube of sugar if you want to enhance the taste. But I prefer enhancing with natural sweeter. Better still don’t add any at all!

If you follow this recipe you are sure to have a wonderful cup of garlic and ginger tea. (PLEASE NOTE: the Lipton tea brand could be replaced by any other tea brand if desired)
