The National Coordinator/CEO of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, in his speech, explained: “The Quiz and Essay Competitions for the Riverine/Rural Secondary Schools in the State, is aimed at bridging the gap between the Riverine, Rural Schools and their Urban counterparts, so that the coastal schools can have a full taste of what they have been denied over time, in terms of academic competitions and exposures”.
Comrade Mulade, further noted that the primary aim of CEPEJ, was to promote educational awareness among the Riverine/Rural communities, as well as to assist the less-privileged and to support education of highly intelligent students with scholarship.
He called on Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as well as other South-South Governors and multinational oil companies, to pay more attention to the improvement of the educational sector at rural and riverine areas.
"We urge multinational oil companies, operating in these areas (rural and riverine) to channel more of their corporate social responsibility functions to the development of education, so as to help reduce illiteracy and put an end to civil unrests in their operational areas”, Mulade stated.
Comrade Mulade, added: "I was a victim of lack of education, due to the challenges of the riverine terrain, where there is poor education and lack of facility for learning. I lived in the creeks and struggled through education, with strong determination, I was able to acquire the level of education that I have today. If I can make it, then you also can have it".
