Principal of Community Secondary School, CSS, Akpo, Anambra State, Mr. Osita Okpala has issued a challenge to Akpolians to renovate the school in their community.
Mr. Osita Okpala issued this challenge during the school’s Unity Inter-House Sports Competition held recently.
He stated that it was their lack of care and concern for the school that has left it in its dilapidated state and charged them to build the school to their taste instead of them taking their wards and children to neighbouring schools. In his words, “this school has good and strong structure in the past but today due to lack of care and concern by the community and the government, the entire building have collapsed and dilapidated.”
He added, “you can agree with me that Community Secondary School, Akpo, is the only source of light through which the entire youths of Akpo could see the world. If this assertion is correct, why then should the Akpolians abandon their own school in their town to look for other colleges in their neighbouring communities? Why can’t you build your only school to your taste?”
Mr. Okpala opined that the purpose of the Inter House Sports is to fish out hidden talents, promote education through sport as well as to generate fund and purchase trophies to move the college forward. He also explained that the competition would energise the entire villages
in Akpo into friendly and competitive mood, while drawing the attention of Akpolians both home and abroad to their “only government attracted industry” in the community.
The principal added that through the competition they will be able to inculcate love, philanthropy, good citizenship, peace and unity among the growing youths and environs.
Mr. Okpala while appealing to members of Akpo community to allow their children and wards attend the school to increase its population, also appealed to the stakeholders and government to come to their aid. He said, “Akpo meaningful citizens whose children and wards live in Akpo,
should allow their children to school in Community Secondary School Akpo to make the population grow. Without high population we cannot get any meaningful help from the government.”
He added, “the community, other stakeholders, old girls and boys of this school and the government should come to the help of this dying school, for the strength of the P.T.A alone cannot carry the heavy loads in this college.”
It would be recalled that the college was formerly known as Girls Secondary School Akpo, it was approved by Anambra State government in 1978 with a population of 112 students, the senior prefect of the pioneer set was Berinda Ezeonuoha and the Principal was late Mr. Bernard Uzoezie Onwumelu.
Meanwhile, the Inter-House Sports Competition which was chaired by Prof. Paul Orajaka duly represented by Prof. Lazarus Ezenwaka, has the result in match past as follows: Umueze emerged first, closely followed by Uhuala and Amaife clinching the second and third place respectively.
