Surveyors’ body launches inquest against members’ sharp practices

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, NIS, Delta State Branch has begun new cadastral guidelines that will enable it deal with, penalize and sanction earing members of the body involved in sharp practices, Fresh Angle International can report.

Delta State Chairman of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Surveyor Abraham Umukoro who made the disclosure during  a press briefing in Warri, noted that the reforms which will commence January 1, 2018 with the introduction of customized papers is expected to protect “the gullible public-our client”.

According to him, the introduction of customized papers for all registered surveyors in private practice effective January 1, 2018, will coincide with the new price regime for all survey jobs executed in the State.

While noting that all members of NIS have agreed to strictly comply with the new regime, Surveyor Abraham asserted that the new guidelines will check-mate the substantial loss of revenue accruing to Delta State Government arising from survey plans not being lodged with the State Ministry of Lands and Survey.

Fresh Angle International can also report that to control the proliferation of fake survey plans, NIS has equally introduced a system of customized conqueror papers for all survey plans, a system designed to ensure that every surveyor approved to practice in the State “will have a unique identification and other security information captured on papers allotted to him/her for production of survey plans”.

As part of the reform, a system of pre-payment for plan deposit which will guarantee immediate lodgment prior to the production of certified true copies have been put in place.
