In what looks like a state government directive, the Transition Committee Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Mr. Collins Olorogun has set up a 15-man Adhoc Staff Audit Committee to ascertain the actual number of staff working in the council with a view to checking any possible ghost workers.
The staff verification committee which is headed by the Vice Chairman of the Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Ernest Tobi, the various Heads of Department and other members of the committee drawn from the political class as well as some staff from various departments has already commenced staff auditing.
The committee which was set up barely two weeks after the Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye conducted a similar exercise, is charged with the responsibility of finding out the actual number of staff working in each department, those working in out-stations as well as staff that are on study leave in various institutions of higher learning.
In a statement by Secretary to Bomadi Local Government, Mr. Obale Abonema, the exercise which commenced Monday April 8, with Admin. Department will continue with Community Development Department on Tuesday April 9, while Agric, Account and Environment departments will have their turn Wednesday April 10.
The statement adds that staff of Primary Health Care department will be screened by the Adhoc Committee on Thursday April 11, just as Works department will have its turn on Friday the 12th.
The statement enjoined all staff of the local government council who are on their annual vacation, maternity leave, those deployed to the Local Government Service Commission, Asaba, those studying in various higher institutions and those deplored to health centers across the local government to please take note and adhere strictly to the dates and time slated for each department as there will be no extension of date.
While noting that the exercise will hold between 8:30 am to 5:00pm daily for the stipulated period, Mr. Obale further stated that all staffers of the council are required to appear personally with their original documents, warning that screening by proxy will not be allowed.
Fresh Angle investigation reveals that most local government councils in Delta State are yet to pay March salary as a result of the ongoing staff screening exercise, even as there have been no report of ghost workers discovered in any of the 25 councils as at the time of this report.
